Taking over Nikon D50’s spot as the Nikon entry-level digital SLR is the new 6-megapixel Nikon D40. Looks like the rumors were real!
Compact, good list of features and with a bargain price tag, the D40 seems perfect for amateurs looking to step up into DSLR photography.

| 522g (with battery) | 620g (with battery) |

The slick-looking new user interface is truly worth praising. Especially the graphics of the aperture, which helps beginners remember that small f-number means a larger opening and not the other way around.
The new Flash Off mode is an excellent addition, making it possible to shoot in full-auto in situations where the flash would spoil the mood of the picture.
While the in-depth reviews are yet to be out, I’m pretty confident that the Nikon D40 will deliver great results, just like the D50 and the new D80, albeit with fewer controls.
The suggested retail price is at $599, which comes with the new Nikon AF-s DX 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. This is really great value, so what are you waiting for? Ditch that puny IXUS and join the DSLR club!

My Dad surely love this . . .
It has only been about four months since Nikon introduced the entry-level D40 digital SLR. But Nikon’s updating it anyway with the new D40x.
Differences:
Looks like the slightly higher price than D40 won’t get you much of an upgrade. Forum discussions have shown that most people would rather pay a little more and get a D80 instead.
The D40x will be available next month for US$729.95 for the body only, or US$799.95 for the package including its 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S lens.

Young startup TN Games used the GDC games expo today to introduce the ForceWear Vest. Force-feedback units located at eight points throughout the clothing create up to ten pounds of pressure in different rhythms depending on the type of hit inflicted to the player. Anything from a solid punch to gunfire can be simulated, reducing the need for visual damage cues in first-person games. Virtual G-force effects can also be generated for driving or flight simulators.
Three different styles of the vest will be sold, with a black tactical scheme, camouflage, and a flame-adorned racing model available to suit the wearer’s tastes in gameplay. ForceWear should debut first on the PC in November.

The 3style Mouse is like a cross between a wireless mouse and a jog wheel. As well as working in the normal ‘X’ and ‘Y’ directions, the whole mouse can be rotated, spinning freely and smoothly on its ball bearing pad.
Using robust sensing technology unique to this product, the mouse can sense when it is being rotated and sends this rotational data to the computer as ‘Z’ or scroll data. This ‘Z’ data, which is a third degree of freedom, can be applied to many tasks in the computer software being used with the mouse.
The sensing technology is also used to make sure the mouse always ‘knows where it is going’. That is, unlike a normal mouse which must be held in a certain direction so that ‘up is up’, the 3style Mouse will know that ‘up is up’ no matter which way it is rotated. Because of this, it can be used to simultaneously control three dimensions. Continue Reading »
